Head of Marketing

London, UK

tl;dr: Cord — an API that adds Figma-like collaboration features to any software — is hiring a head of marketing to build out our marketing engine and make Cord a household name for teams building the next generation of software. Come and join our friendly team of tech veterans, and shape how we tell our story to the world. We pay well and won't burn you out.

This is an opportunity to join a team of talented ex-Google, Facebook and Amazon engineers and product professionals. You'll help define and run the operation that produces great content that educates our audience, inform our platform strategy and be a part of our success.

What we'd like from you:

  • Communicate the value of Cord in the minds of our prospects and customers by analyzing the market and competitive landscape.
  • Understand our buyer’s journey, including where they get information, and the who, what, when and why behind the decisions they make – then drive changes to our sales and marketing processes based on what you learn.
  • Work closely with our Head of Product to own product launches and translate features into business value.
  • Own collateral for sales and marketing, such as case studies and blog posts.
  • Build and execute a scalable content strategy (blogs, community, podcasts, social, events, eBooks) that drives awareness and inbound interest to the product while experimenting with which channels are most effective.
  • Together with our Head of Brand Design, own the website, make updates and write copy as needed and make sure we are continuously improving the conversion funnel.
  • You’ll collaborate with others in sales and developer relations to create campaigns that create market awareness and convert targets into qualified opportunities.
  • You'll do some stuff yourself, and grow a team of marketers (or use freelancers where more reasonable) around you.

  • Comfortable with ownership and accountability for key aspects of the company marketing strategy.
  • Scrappiness and experimentation mindset: You are comfortable rolling up your sleeves and getting things done. If you don’t know how to do something, you’ll figure it out.
  • The ability to balance between strategic thinking and thoughtful execution.
  • Strong writing and editing skills. You can distill complexity and industry jargon into simple messaging our customers will resonate with.
  • Ideally, 2+ years of experience in product marketing, content marketing or growth roles and have experience working in a fast-growing startup.
  • Bonus points if you worked on a SaaS or technical product.
  • The role is in London, UK (we come to the office Tue-Thu and work from home Mondays and Fridays)

At Cord, we believe in making sure our team has the tools they need to do their best work. That’s why we supply each new hire with a new laptop (Mac or PC, whatever you prefer) when they join. We set up everyone with a 27-inch, 4k monitor, high quality headphones, everything you need to be at your best when you're at work. Whenever we get the chance to work in our office again, we also enjoy fully electric adjustable height desks (sit or stand). Because we want to be flexible as we grow, all our desks are on wheels. Need to work with someone? Just wheel your whole desk over. We also have free snacks delivered weekly to the office -- fruit, chocolate biscuits, seaweed snacks -- whatever the team wants.

We want a happy team, so we also make time for play in addition to the work. Every Thursday at 4pm we stop working and have a social catch up. This means free drinks, sometimes over board games at the office. Outside of work, we make sure people have the time to do what brings them joy, so we offer an official 26 holiday days per year, but no one keeps track of this and we don’t care how many days people take as long as they get good work done. And our founders and several of the team members are parents - and we consider it obvious that families come first and that work shouldn't add more stress to the already stressful parenting life (did we mention private health & dental care for you and your family?). It's never about the hours or the days - just the quality of the output. We’re a high-trust, high-expectations company.

A Note About Culture

At Cord, we treat code review and mentorship of our team members as a first-class priority. Because of that, we expect our senior developers to support junior folks. We want to build a team of seniors who are exceptional in their area of expertise as well as interpersonally. We value EQ, IQ, and pragmatism equally for our senior team members.

We don't judge people by number of years of experience. For us, it’s not about on-paper credentials. We're looking for someone who is eager to learn and excited to deliver a new product to the world. We're much more concerned with your curiosity and proven capability to learn and execute than how long you've been doing the job.

Building a strong, diverse team is hard, but it's something we're taking really seriously. At the moment, we're a team of twelve who speak 5 different languages and hail from 6 different countries. We deeply value people who can bring more diversity to our team. At the root of our company culture are things: pragmatism, technical excellence, and emotional intelligence. We value them equally. Our gender diversity is way better than the industry average at the moment, but we’re aiming for an even more diverse team.
