Hiring process (engineering roles)

We’re still a pretty small team and we know what we’re looking for, so our tech hiring process can go as fast as you want (or need) to go. Here’s the typical process:

Recruiter Screen (30 minutes)

An arrow pointing up

A video call where your recruiter gives you an overview of Cord, the role you're interviewing for, and the team. They'll also ask you questions about your experience, background, and career interests. This chat also covers salary, timelines, and notice period.

Tech Screen (45 minutes)

A video call interview with one of our engineers. Varies depending on role, but for software engineers we offer the choice between a live coding exercise in React or a language-agnostic algorithmic interview question.

Onsite Interview (3-4 hours, including lunch)

Engineering onsite interviews typically include two whiteboard interviews plus a behavioral interview. For mid-senior level engineers, we also give a systems design interview. There is some variation depending on the role you're interviewing for (a Customer Success Engineer will give a presentation, for example).

Hiring process (business roles)

For roles outside of engineering, interview content is based on role related knowledge, culture/team fit, and the skills core to the job. Here's the typical process:

Recruiter Screen (30 minutes)

A video call where your recruiter gives you an overview of Cord, the role you're interviewing for, and the team. They'll also ask you questions about your experience, background, and career interests. This chat also covers salary, timelines, and notice period.

Hiring Manager Screen (45 minutes)

You'll have a video call with the hiring manager for an In depth conversation about your experience and role-related knowledge. Team fit questions might also come up in this call.

Onsite Interview (3-4 hours, including lunch)

The focus areas depend on the role, but typically the onsite includes 2-3 skills based interviews plus one behavioral interview. All of our onsite interviews include at least one practical interview (a mock demo or presentation) since we find that gives us the strongest hiring signal but wherever possible, we minimize the work you need to do to prepare for interviews with us. For most practical interviews, we’ll either ask you to do a live exercise, on the day, or use content you will already have to hand.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about joining Cord

Are your roles remote?

An arrow pointing up

No, unless specified in the job description. We have a hybrid working setup, with office days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Do you sponsor visas?

An arrow pointing up

Yes! For UK-based roles, we sponsor new (and transfer existing) visas. Visa sponsorship policy varies for roles outside of the UK; get in touch with a recruiter for details.

What if I’m employed outside of the UK? What do benefits looks like?

An arrow pointing up

We use an employer of record (EOR) for Cord employees based outside of the UK. They offer full time employment status and tax status. Benefits vary depending on the country - your recruiter will have more details.

What if I don't meet all the job requirements in the job description?

An arrow pointing up

We'd love to see your application. The requirements are there to give you a sense of the job responsibilities; they're not carved on stone tablets. Regardless of your experience, a lot of what you do here will be new.

It's also an unfortunate truth that women are significantly less likely to apply for jobs where they don't meet all of the requirements. If you're thinking about applying, please do. This is a job for you.

How long to I have to think about my offer?

An arrow pointing up

You might have gathered we have some strongly held opinions - one of them is about so-called "exploding offers." We don't do them.

Think about your offer for as long as you need: run the numbers, cast some runes, talk to your mentor, search your soul. The work you do and who you do it with are big decisions and we aren't going to rush you.
