Our Goal

We were scaling up our hiring demands and wanted to increase our response rate with a network of active candidates

Our Situation
To build an active network
Our response rate from inbound applications and through LinkedIn was very low, so when we looked to scale up our hiring demands, cord stood out to us because of its original focus on technical roles. We wanted to build a large network of active candidates and saw that we could easily do this on cord.
Using cord
Relevant and remote-first
I set up the streams on cord to only show me people relevant to the roles I advertised, meaning I didn’t have to sift through endless amounts of unsuitable profiles, like I would have to on LinkedIn, as on there, you don’t always know the requirements of those you are reaching out to. On cord, all requirements are clearly visible on the profile, cutting down on wasted time. xDesign are a remote-first company, so I would tailor the streams to only show remote workers, of which there is a large volume. What’s great is that not only do I see their remote preference, but what country they are working remotely from - work eligibility is clearly displayed, something which I find very useful.

Advantageous automation
The message templates are fantastic as, if I am on leave, it allows my team to use the same outreach I would and still get a good success rate. There are lots of personalised variables in these templates; not just the person's name, but their job title, past experience at previous companies, tech stack they use, etc. It also allows me to input details about the advertised role, such as the required skills for the position. It’s automated with a certain degree of personalisation, and it’s a great time-saving feature. Also, the automated follow-up messages are very useful to give those we reach out to a little bit of a nudge if they are slightly delayed in responding. I usually set mine to two days after the first message, and oftentimes this prompts a speedy reply. That automation reduced the time I needed to spend to get great hires.

Less noise, more results
People on LinkedIn are absolutely inundated with messages, sometimes receiving 30 messages within a week from companies that don’t even know if the person they are reaching out to is suitable for the role. It’s a lot of firing blind, whereas on cord, there’s much less noise and a greater emphasis on targeted outreach, meaning our messages stand out much more. The people we send outreach to are actively looking for roles, leading to quick responses. I get responses within a few days maximum, whereas on LinkedIn I’ve had people reply to me months later. Ultimately this means there is less time invested to make a hire. Overall, our response rate is nearly 50%, a marked improvement over LinkedIn.

Our Result

As of 2024, we have made 31 hires and greatly increased our pool of active candidates to hire from
