Our Goal

We’re in our scale-up phase and wanted to find good Engineers that understood our product and have the right skill set to help us grow.

Our Situation
Out with the archaic
Our organisation requires developers with a very niche skill set, specifically experience in AI and NLP data science. Finding suitable Engineers with these skill sets has been a significant challenge in a difficult market. Previously, we relied on job boards, LinkedIn, and our networks to source Engineers. However, we found LinkedIn to be an archaic and bulky system that consumed a lot of time and effort. Setting up job postings, searching for Engineers and sending out messages to hundreds of people resulted in only a handful of responses. We found this an inefficient way to source Engineers, so looked for an alternative, and found it in cord.
Using cord
Automation and inbound messages
I use cord every day, spending the mornings looking at cord. Once I've set up the initial streams, I just wait for new Engineers to filter in for me to review. These can appear as email alerts and also as Slack notifications, so I’m always up to date as soon as new people enter the market for me to review without me having to constantly be on the cord platform. This automated process saves me a lot of time and makes my sourcing efforts more efficient, reducing the overall time I spend on the recruitment process.
I also receive a lot of relevant inbound messages. Engineers can view your company profile and get a feel for who you are and for your product, and if they believe they would be a good fit, they can approach you directly. This takes some of the responsibility off of me as a recruiter to source Engineers actively. I find this feature to be particularly powerful as it shows that Engineers have a genuine interest in our company and product, making it easier to identify strong matches for our roles.

Clear and concise profiles
One of the great things about sourcing Engineers on cord is that they clearly state the criteria they are looking for in their job search. This information helps us quickly determine whether an Engineer is a good match for the role and our company. For example, as we’re a FinTech company, if an Engineer has expressed an interest in working in the FinTech industry we know we are more likely to have a successful interaction with that Engineer as our industries already align. This level of transparency saves us time and effort in the recruitment process, and it helps us find Engineers who are genuinely interested in working for our company.
But it’s not just what industry they want to work in that is shown on an Engineer’s profile. You can easily see the salary they expect, their location, remote work preferences, and the current software they use. For instance, a profile might list Python as their primary skill and AWS as their secondary skill, and you’d know “my role is Python using AWS as the cloud, this Engineer matches my criteria exactly”. This level of detail makes it easy to determine if an Engineer is a good match for a specific role. In contrast, LinkedIn profiles often only show a job title, making it difficult to assess if an Engineer is actually qualified with the right skills for a specific role. This results in wasted time and effort, chasing Engineers only to find out they are unqualified for your positions. With cord, the detailed information on Engineer profiles significantly reduces the time to source and helps ensure that you are engaging with relevant and qualified Engineers.

High response rates and quick time to hire
One of my favourite features on cord is the message templates. I appreciate the convenience of having automated outreach messages that are already tailored to each role that we have live. We can create multiple templates and set up an automatic follow-up for any amount of time if the Engineer hasn't responded. This feature has improved our response rates by giving Engineers a gentle nudge to respond, which has been helpful in our recruitment efforts. cord has provided us with the highest response rate compared to other recruitment platforms we have used in the past. We typically receive a response within 24 hours, and approximately 1 in 2 messages we send out receive a response. This is a marked improvement from our experience with LinkedIn and other job boards, where the response rate was much lower. The increased response rate has helped us to speed up our recruitment process and find suitable Engineers more efficiently. We have also noticed a significant improvement in our time-to-hire since using cord. We were able to fill three graduate roles within two weeks, a data scientist role in just one week, and a Python developer role in three weeks. On average, we were able to make all our hires in under a month, which is a considerable improvement from our previous recruitment processes.
