Engineering and digital is going to be a big focus for a business in the near future so in terms of hiring, we wanted to make sure we were fishing in the right areas to help us attract the best talent.
Our Situation
Scaling in a competitive market
I've been hiring for Kingfisher for 5 years - during that time we've used traditional hiring methods such as job boards and LinkedIn. Recently we've had a big spike in our tech and digital recruitment so we were looking to branch out and find new tools to aid us in our tech recruitment.
Before using cord in early 2021, we knew digital was going to be a big focus for us as a business so we set out on finding the best tools to help us scale our Engineering teams.
In the current market, we know there is a real skill shortage when it comes to Engineering as well as a lot of competition with other businesses, so we wanted to find the hiring tools that would help us find the best talent in tech and digital. We joined cord with the aim of finding quality candidates that were responsive to our outreach.

Using cord
Active, quality candidates
On cord we get access to a pool of active candidates which means we know that the people we are reaching out to are already looking for their next opportunity. As hiring managers, our lives are a lot easier when we know someone is on the market and looking to interview straight away.
Active candidates also means that we see response rates around 50%, double what we might expect on LinkedIn - this has a knock-on effect in reducing our time-to-interview and time-to-hire. Even as a FTSE 100 company, we can move from an initial conversation with a candidate on cord to a final stage interview within 5-7 days.
Features built for modern recruitment
One of the reasons I'd recommend cord would be how modern it feels to use as a hiring tool. Comparably, other tools have felt clunky, their UI/UX has been poor and often they still require you to use boolean searches to get the desired results.
cord's UI as well as features like streams, message templates and the ability to DM with candidates make it very useful in both operation and results. What cord has done is taken a good approach to sourcing, and then refined and modernised it - it's super useful and intuitive for recruiters.
Discoverable to the right people
As a business that's trying to have evermore presence in the tech industry, having our brand in the right place is vital not only for not only our awareness but also for our employer brand. We consider cord to be one of the 'right places' to advertise ourselves as a business as we know some of the best Developers in the UK and Europe are on cord. Having a profile on cord acts as a shop window to communicate who we are as an organization - it's had a big impact on our brand awareness and our employer brand.
Obvious value
cord has absolutely been cost-effective as a hiring tool for us as a business - having made 16 hires for the price of two typical agency hire fees, the ROI of cord is clear.
