About Compose
Our Goal
We had raised our funding round and had a small founding team consisting of 3 Co-founders; Danny, Karim, and myself. We were looking to build out Compose’s core team and wanted to take time to find the right people to join us on our growth journey.
We tried to find people on LinkedIn but quickly realised it was a much slower-paced experience - we would reach out to people but they wouldn’t necessarily accept the invite or connect, and the hit rate is so much lower, which makes the process a volume game.
Hiring is a long process requiring you to reach out to lots of people before getting any return. The quicker you can go through the motions and the more seamless that is, the easier it is to focus on the person.
Focused and Fast
We’ve used a few hiring tools, but what I liked about cord was that it was very much engineering-specific and people were very responsive. Any time we reach out to anyone on cord, or they reach out to us, I usually expect to hear back from them on the same day, often within hours.
on cord, we found that we could really focus on finding exactly the right people without worrying about spamming hundreds of engineers who might not even be the right fit for our roles.
Sourcing made simple
Jumping between 4 or 5 different hiring platforms gets really tedious. My favourite part of scaling our team was jumping into cord as I knew it would be a matter of minutes, not hours, to get through my inbox. Every day, I’ll check on my cord inbox for any inbound applications we’ve received for our positions.
The best part of using the direct-messaging feature to reach out to engineers is the ability to use the templated messages which still feel personalised. You can pick the template of our choice, send it and it’s just so much faster.
I do a lot of sourcing - we had a number of streams set up on cord for the different roles we’ve been hiring for. I even had my email notifications which enabled me to keep track of the new candidates joining cord who were a match for high-priority positions.
Strong ROI
In terms of conversion to hires, cord is by far the best platform. All 3 hires we made and have joined the team have been fantastic.
As far as cost-benefit and ROI goes, cord has a strong competitive advantage. In comparison, if you’re working with a recruiter, they’re going to charge 15-20% commission on each hire’s salary. A single hire would have cost us more than everything we’ve spent on cord so far.
