How does the work we do shape us?

I remember either reading this or hearing this somewhere. It really, really stuck with me, but the point I was making was that we become our work. As in the work that we do shapes our worldview and it shapes us. I went to an osteopath recently and he used a very similar phrase. He said, "We become the shape of the work that we do, in a very literal sense." If you're a tennis player, you can develop one side more than the other. So you have to rebalance, train the other side.

If you're sat at a desk like we are now, you become the shape of the work that you do in a very literal sense. You do it in a physical sense, but also in a psychological sense. And this article was saying if you work as, let’s say, a journalist, then by professional habit, you're used to questioning people, maybe being a bit cynical about people's motivations because you're constantly trying to dig stuff out and get to the truth of things. And then that shapes the way that you're used to looking at the world and encountering it. And to some extent, we shape the way the world manifests to us by the expectations and the worldview we bring to it.
