Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and driven Senior Product Engineer to join our Engineering team and help lead and drive the successful completion of high-impact features, specifically contributing to the advancement of Arbor products. The remit and focus of the role is to contribute towards the development of the companies core systems and processes, as well as implement strategies to enhance and optimise product quality and lead time across the entire team. It's a broad and exciting role, so we're looking for someone up for a challenge - if you're a collaborative and enthusiastic Engineer, this is the role for you.


Core responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Engineering Manager, Tech Lead, QA Engineer, and Product Manager to help solutionise feature requests
  • Maintain software that ties together internal systems
  • Build software to centralise add-on purchases for the Arbor Platform
  • Lead the creation of detailed documentation for new feature developments, incorporating diagrams for comprehensive project understanding.
  • Drive the development and implementation of advanced tests around new features, ensuring the highest standards of test coverage and reliability.
  • Demonstrate expertise in producing well-architected, efficient, and scalable code using industry-leading design patterns and methodologies.
  • Take a leadership role in code reviews and pair programming sessions, guiding and mentoring colleagues towards excellence.
  • Lead and actively participate in tech-talks, workshops, and team-based learning initiatives, ensuring knowledge is disseminated effectively across the team.

About you

  • Extensive and demonstrated experience with Object-Oriented languages and software development.
  • Considerable experience in software development, specifically with PHP
  • Demonstrable experience building back-end services in PHP
  • Significant experience working with third-party systems and APIs
  • Advanced understanding and application of best practices and software engineering principles, including SOLID, DRY, etc.
  • Significant database skills and expertise in relational database technologies.
  • Proactive problem-solving approach with a strategic mindset.
  • Leadership qualities demonstrated through collaboration and mentorship.
  • A team player, willing to muck in and help others when needed, driven personality who asks questions and actively participates in discussions
  • Good written and spoken English so you can present your ideas - our HQ is based in London

Bonus skills

  • Past experience with enterprise solutions and large-scale systems
  • Experience with React (or experience with Vue and willingness to learn React)
  • Familiarity with Scrum methodology or other agile development processes
  • Experience with cloud computing
  • Experience with Docker and containerisation
  • Familiarity with software best practices such as Refactoring, Clean Code, Domain-Driven Design, Test-Driven Development, etc.

Requirements

We have built our entire banking platform in house and mostly in Java. We are looking for people who want to work on building the tooling that is used by our engineers on a daily basis.

We are looking for people who are truly full stack, and are as comfortable polishing their javascript front end as they are debugging the innards of their java applications database interactions, or standing up infrastructure with terraform. We are looking for people who can:

  • Design REST apis.
  • Code backend services, ideally using Java, or another other server side compiled language.
  • Develop modern front ends, ideally using React and Redux.
  • Get their code into the cloud and support it there, ideally on AWS.
  • Believe in clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing and continuous deployment.
  • Like to take ownership of a feature from the original idea through to live.
  • Think (like us) that a small number of empowered developers is the right way to deliver software.
