Job Description

Based in Oxford, you will be a senior member of the GB & Ireland advisory team at Aurora, helping our clients make better strategic and investment decisions by delivering cutting-edge insights across the energy transition. You will manage junior colleagues to deliver outstanding analysis for clients, supporting all aspects of client engagement: helping identify issues, forming hypotheses, conducting analysis, synthesising conclusions into recommendations, and presenting to key decision-makers in the industry. You will develop data-based strategic insights into the energy transition for both public and private sector clients. You will work in a dynamic, stimulating, and demanding yet supportive environment. You will apply your strong interpersonal skills to thrive in connected, cooperative project teams. Over time, you will grow into an industry expert under the guidance of senior colleagues with deep experience addressing major strategic issues in the energy transition. The position suits an experienced analyst or associate from a top-tier strategic or economic consultancy, energy company, financial services company, or knowledge-focused firm or institution. The successful candidate will combine technical ability with a strong track record of leadership and dependable performance in team-oriented environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Leading delivery of bespoke advisory projects for our clients, across a diverse range of energy transition technologies, business models and strategies
  • Ensuring strong project management, rigorous standards of analysis and clear communication of insights based on applying Aurora's suite of energy market models to client needs
  • Line managing and coaching junior analysts - both as their day-to-day manager on projects and in their longer-term development
  • Acting as a day-to-day point of contact for clients, managing expectations on scope and timelines and building relationships that lead to repeat work
  • Supporting business development work, for example by drafting proposals and joining scoping calls with clients

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


Required attributes:

  • At least three years of experience at a major consultancy, energy company, financial services company, or other knowledge-focused firm or institution
  • First-class or high second-class university degree
  • Demonstrated success in taking responsibility for project and process management in team-oriented environments
  • Proven ability to interpret and derive insight from complex quantitative data and information
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate clearly and co-operate effectively with both technically and non-technically minded people
  • Self-starting, entrepreneurial mind-set, and desire to grow the business

Desirable attributes:

  • Previous experience working on energy-related projects or policy - particularly in a GB/European context
  • Leadership, management or mentoring experience demonstrated by previous roles of professional responsibility or extracurricular activities
  • Demonstrated success in working together with clients
  • Competence in advanced data analytics (e.g. Python, R, Matlab, Advanced Excel)
  • Strong academic record, such as a Master's degree or PhD in a relevant discipline

Requirements

We have built our entire banking platform in house and mostly in Java. We are looking for people who want to work on building the tooling that is used by our engineers on a daily basis.

We are looking for people who are truly full stack, and are as comfortable polishing their javascript front end as they are debugging the innards of their java applications database interactions, or standing up infrastructure with terraform. We are looking for people who can:

  • Design REST apis.
  • Code backend services, ideally using Java, or another other server side compiled language.
  • Develop modern front ends, ideally using React and Redux.
  • Get their code into the cloud and support it there, ideally on AWS.
  • Believe in clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing and continuous deployment.
  • Like to take ownership of a feature from the original idea through to live.
  • Think (like us) that a small number of empowered developers is the right way to deliver software.
