Job Description

We are looking for a Mid level Platform Engineer who appreciates the benefits of automation and Infrastructure as Code. Our aim in Platform Engineering is to:

  • Create core components in AWS which support applications serving millions of requests a day
  • Advocate best practices to our growing team of best in class developers
  • Create an easy path to production with the right level of abstraction
  • Contribute to environment stability and security, and participate in on-call rota (paid)
Initiatives you will have the opportunity to work on
  • Modernising our infrastructure and moving workloads to Kubernetes, working collaboratively with Engineering.
  • Spin up isolated environments on demand using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Working with our Engineering team to find tools and processes that increase efficiency and velocity to deploy features to our growing product.

Required Skills

  • AWS - You have used AWS in a professional environment, created infrastructure and have can recognise areas for improvement in an existing setup.
  • Linux - You are comfortable using commands to interact with the filesystem, checking for any issues.
  • CI/CD - You have set up pipelines and can advise teams on best practices.
  • Soft Skills - You are a team player, open to hear other people’s views and opinions, receptive to feedback.
  • Version Control (git)
  • Docker - You have Dockerized applications, and understand the concepts.
  • Troubleshooting - Can troubleshoot and fix issues in infrastructure and applications.
  • Databases - You have experience working with managed MySQL.
  • Monitoring/Telemetry - You have used monitoring previously to help you fix issues and created dashboards as necessary,
  • Terraform - You understand the benefits of Infrastructure as Code, know about reusing code, participate in Code Reviews and push to improve code quality.
Nice to have:
  • Experience deploying services in Kubernetes
  • You have an interest in learning Go/Python which you will use to create tooling that will help developers.
  • Eagerness for continuous learning of cloud best practices and System Design concepts such as High Availability, Redundancy and Failover.

Requirements

We have built our entire banking platform in house and mostly in Java. We are looking for people who want to work on building the tooling that is used by our engineers on a daily basis.

We are looking for people who are truly full stack, and are as comfortable polishing their javascript front end as they are debugging the innards of their java applications database interactions, or standing up infrastructure with terraform. We are looking for people who can:

  • Design REST apis.
  • Code backend services, ideally using Java, or another other server side compiled language.
  • Develop modern front ends, ideally using React and Redux.
  • Get their code into the cloud and support it there, ideally on AWS.
  • Believe in clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing and continuous deployment.
  • Like to take ownership of a feature from the original idea through to live.
  • Think (like us) that a small number of empowered developers is the right way to deliver software.
