Job Description

You will lead the Global Institute of Credit Professionals (GICP) as a globally recognised centre of excellence for the credit profession. The role focuses on advancing professional standards, strengthening GICP's position in the industry, and building a respected global community for credit professionals.

This position requires a leader with deep practical credit experience and the credibility to engage senior practitioners, employers and industry leaders.

You will chair the GICP Advisory Committee, working closely with senior credit practitioners and industry leaders to ensure that the Institute remains relevant to the evolving credit landscape. In partnership with faculty, practitioners and subject-matter experts, you will help define and evolve the Global Credit Certificate and the broader GICP learning and professional-development offering. You will embed market insight and practitioner experience into qualifications, curriculum, research and member value.

As part of a broader institutes portfolio, you will collaborate closely with the Managing Director, Institutes and Strategic Partnerships, contributing to a coordinated ecosystem strategy across Fitch Learning's global institute brands.

You will build and lead a high-impact, mission-driven team focused on professional standards, product relevance, member value, thought leadership and global community growth.

Institute Leadership and Strategic Direction

  • Lead the evolution of GICP as a global centre of excellence and the professional home for credit practitioners.
  • Shape its strategic direction, market positioning and long-term growth.
  • Reinforce GICP's authority across corporate credit, bank credit, commercial lending, capital markets, private credit and related areas of the credit profession.

Curriculum, Qualifications and Product Relevance

  • Work closely with practitioners, faculty and subject-matter experts to shape and evolve the Global Credit Certificate and broader GICP learning portfolio.
  • Ensure offerings remain practical, rigorous and relevant to the changing needs of credit professionals and their employers.
  • Build clear pathways from foundational credit learning to advanced capability, professional recognition and lifelong learning.

Thought Leadership and Industry Engagement

  • Establish and lead a differentiated global thought-leadership agenda for GICP.
  • Represent the Institute at senior forums, conferences and industry events, strengthening its visibility, reputation and influence.
  • Build strong relationships with banks, asset managers, institutional investors, private-credit firms, rating agencies, regulators, corporates, professional bodies and academic institutions.

Membership Growth and Community Development

  • Expand and deepen the global GICP community by enhancing member engagement, professional networks and regional presence.
  • Develop initiatives that establish GICP as the professional home for credit professionals, supporting lifelong learning, collaboration, peer connection and career progression.

Ecosystem and Partnership Development

  • Develop strategic partnerships with financial institutions, employers, academic institutions, regulators and industry bodies to extend GICP's reach and impact.
  • Create clear pathways across relevant credit-learning programmes, qualifications and professional designations.
  • Contribute to a coordinated institutes portfolio strategy that strengthens alignment and value across Fitch Learning's institute brands.

Member Value, Professional Standards and Career Progression

  • Strengthen the GICP member proposition through high-quality content, research, events, professional networks, career resources and continuing professional development.
  • Advance professional standards across the credit industry.
  • Strengthen recognition of the Global Credit Certificate and GICP membership as credible indicators of applied credit capability, judgement and professional standing.

Commercial Growth, Governance and Organisational Leadership

  • Develop a sustainable commercial and operating model for GICP that balances market impact, professional credibility, member value and financial growth.
  • Establish effective governance and quality frameworks.
  • Chair the GICP Advisory Committee.
  • Build a high-performing, mission-driven team with strong cross-functional alignment across Fitch Learning and the wider Fitch Group.

You May Be a Good Fit If You

  • Are an experienced credit practitioner with significant experience in credit analysis, credit risk, lending, investment or credit portfolio management.
  • Bring 15 or more years of progressive experience across credit, banking, private credit, ratings, risk, institutional investment or another relevant area of financial services.
  • Have strong technical knowledge of corporate and/or bank credit analysis, with broader familiarity across commercial lending, private credit, debt capital markets, structured finance or credit portfolio management.
  • Have the technical credibility and gravitas to engage chief credit officers, senior risk leaders, investment professionals, regulators, institutional clients and other experienced credit practitioners.
  • Understand the evolving global credit landscape and the professional-development needs of credit practitioners and their employers.
  • Have a strong interest in developing or commercialising qualifications, certification products, professional-development programmes, membership propositions or learning pathways.
  • Possess strong strategic, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate a clear vision into executable plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Have experience building and leading high-performing teams while driving organisational growth and change.
  • Demonstrate strong commercial acumen, including experience identifying market opportunities, developing propositions and building sustainable business models.
  • Are a highly collaborative and entrepreneurial leader who is comfortable with ambiguity and able to operate autonomously within a matrix organisation.
  • Have excellent communication, relationship-management and presentation skills, including experience representing an organisation at senior industry forums.
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, integrity and commitment to quality, serving as a credible ambassador for GICP and the wider credit profession.
  • Have experience establishing, participating in or chairing advisory boards, technical committees or governance forums.

What Would Make You Stand Out

  • Significant experience as a senior credit practitioner, such as a credit officer, credit analyst, credit-risk leader, lender, credit investor, portfolio manager or ratings professional.
  • An established global network across banking, asset management, ratings, private credit, credit risk, regulation or the wider credit community, with a demonstrated ability to influence at senior levels.
  • Thought-leadership credentials in credit through published research, market commentary, speaking engagements, teaching or industry recognition.
  • Experience developing professional standards, qualifications, accreditation frameworks or continuing professional-development propositions.
  • A track record of building and scaling new initiatives from concept through to sustainable revenue generation.

Job Description

Starling is the UK’s first and leading digital bank on a mission to fix banking! Our vision is fast technology, fair service, and honest values. All at the tap of a phone, all the time.

Starling is the UK’s first and leading digital bank on a mission to fix banking! We built a new kind of bank because we knew technology had the power to help people save, spend and manage their money in a new and transformative way.

We’re a fully licensed UK bank with the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive tech company. We’re a bank, but better: fairer, easier to use and designed to demystify money for everyone. We employ more than 3,000 people across our London, Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester offices.

Our technologists are at the very heart of Starling and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment that is all about building things, creating new stuff, and disruptive technology that keeps us on the cutting edge of fintech. We operate a flat structure to empower you to make decisions regardless of what your primary responsibilities may be, innovation and collaboration will be at the core of everything you do. Help is never far away in our open culture, you will find support in your team and from across the business, we are in this together!

The way to thrive and shine within Starling is to be a self-driven individual and be able to take full ownership of everything around you: From building things, designing, discovering, to sharing knowledge with your colleagues and making sure all processes are efficient and productive to deliver the best possible results for our customers. Our purpose is underpinned by five Starling values: Listen, Keep It Simple, Do The Right Thing, Own It, and Aim For Greatness.

Hybrid Working

We have a Hybrid approach to working here at Starling - our preference is that you're located within a commutable distance of one of our offices so that we're able to interact and collaborate in person. We don't like to mandate how much you visit the office and work from home, that's to be agreed upon between you and your manager.

Our Data Environment

Our Data teams are excited about the value of data within the business, powers our product decisions to improve things for our customers and enhance effective and agile decision making, regardless of what their primary tech stack may be. Hear from the team in our latest blogs or our case studies with Women in Tech.

We are looking for talented data professionals at all levels to join the team. We value people being engaged and caring about customers, caring about the code they write and the contribution they make to Starling. People with a broad ability to apply themselves to a multitude of problems and challenges, who can work across teams do great things here at Starling, to continue changing banking for good.

Requirements

We have built our entire banking platform in house and mostly in Java. We are looking for people who want to work on building the tooling that is used by our engineers on a daily basis.

We are looking for people who are truly full stack, and are as comfortable polishing their javascript front end as they are debugging the innards of their java applications database interactions, or standing up infrastructure with terraform. We are looking for people who can:

  • Design REST apis.
  • Code backend services, ideally using Java, or another other server side compiled language.
  • Develop modern front ends, ideally using React and Redux.
  • Get their code into the cloud and support it there, ideally on AWS.
  • Believe in clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing and continuous deployment.
  • Like to take ownership of a feature from the original idea through to live.
  • Think (like us) that a small number of empowered developers is the right way to deliver software.

Company Benefits

  • 33 days holiday (including flexible bank holidays)
  • An extra day’s holiday for your birthday
  • 16 hours paid volunteering time a year
  • Part-time and/or flexible hours available for most roles
  • Salary sacrifice, company enhanced pension scheme
  • Life insurance at 4x your salary
  • Hybrid/remote working
  • Private Medical Insurance with VitalityHealth including mental health support and cancer care. Partner benefits include discounts with Waitrose, Mr&Mrs Smith and Peloton
  • Generous family-friendly policies
  • Varied social groups set up and run by our employees
  • Perkbox membership giving access to retail discounts, a wellness platform for physical and mental health, and weekly free and boosted perks
  • Access to initiatives like Cycle to Work, Salary Sacrificed Gym partnerships and Electric Vehicle (EV) leasing

Full details are available on our careers site

Interview Process

Interviewing is a two way process and we want you to have the time and opportunity to get to know us, as much as we are getting to know you! Our interviews are conversational and we want to get the best from you, so come with questions and be curious. In general you can expect the below, following a chat with one of our Talent Team:

  • Stage 1 - 30 mins with one of the team
  • Stage 2 - Take home challenge
  • Stage 3 - 90 mins technical interview with two team members
  • Stage 3 - 45 min final with an executive and a member of the people team
