Job Description

We're looking for a Business Development Manager to strengthen our presence within the Nuclear sector, developing lasting customer relationships and identifying new business opportunities across the industry. This is a customer-facing role where you'll work with leading organisations in the Nuclear sector, helping them address complex operational challenges through innovative automation, control systems and engineering solutions.

You'll be responsible for managing a portfolio of key customer accounts while proactively developing new business across the Nuclear market. Working closely with our engineering, commercial and delivery teams, you'll help develop solutions that deliver genuine value, support customer requirements and contribute to the safe, reliable and efficient operation of critical Nuclear facilities.

From initial engagement through to long-term account development, you'll play a key role in driving revenue growth, strengthening strategic partnerships and expanding ITI Group's position within the Nuclear industry.

We're looking for someone with a strong background in Control Systems (S&C) and experience working within the Nuclear sector. You'll bring an understanding of the industry's regulatory environment, operational challenges and evolving technology requirements, alongside excellent relationship-building skills, commercial awareness and the ability to identify opportunities that support both our customers' objectives and ITI Group's continued growth.

This role offers flexibility in location, and we'd particularly welcome applications from candidates based in or around the South of the UK, with the ability to travel to customer sites as required.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of a portfolio of strategic Nuclear customer accounts, developing long-term relationships that maximise customer value and business growth.
  • Act as a trusted advisor by understanding customer strategies, operational challenges, technology roadmaps and future requirements within the Nuclear sector.
  • Build and maintain relationships across all levels of customer organisations, from operational and engineering teams through to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Develop account growth plans that identify opportunities for expansion, cross-selling and upselling across the ITI Group portfolio.
  • Proactively identify, qualify and pursue new business opportunities across existing and prospective Nuclear customers.
  • Develop and execute business development strategies aligned with Nuclear market opportunities and ITI Group's growth objectives.
  • Generate and maintain a healthy sales pipeline through industry networking, market engagement, customer referrals and technology partner relationships.
  • Lead commercial discussions from initial engagement through to proposal development and contract award.
  • Position ITI Group's automation, control systems, digitalisation and engineering capabilities to address customer challenges and deliver measurable business value.
  • Work closely with technical specialists to develop innovative, customer-focused solutions aligned with Nuclear industry requirements.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of industrial automation, control systems and operational technology (OT), including their application within Nuclear facilities and critical infrastructure.
  • Develop an awareness of Nuclear industry standards, regulatory requirements and the importance of safety, security and quality in solution delivery.
  • Collaborate with technology partners to identify joint opportunities, strengthen customer relationships and maximise sales potential.
  • Partner with Sales, Engineering, Digital Operations, Project Delivery, Marketing and Technical Support teams to ensure successful solution development and delivery.
  • Connect customers with the appropriate technical experts throughout the sales lifecycle.
  • Support smooth project handovers whilst maintaining ownership of the customer relationship throughout delivery and beyond.
  • Maintain an accurate pipeline of opportunities within the CRM system, ensuring reliable forecasting and reporting.
  • Monitor account performance, customer activity and commercial progress against agreed growth targets.
  • Provide regular updates on pipeline health, customer risks and future opportunities.
  • Stay informed on Nuclear industry developments, market trends, competitor activity and emerging technologies.
  • Use industry knowledge to identify new opportunities and proactively advise customers on future technology strategies.
  • Contribute ideas that improve commercial performance, customer engagement and sales effectiveness.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties consistent with the responsibilities of the role.

Requirements

Experience and Knowledge

  • Demonstrable experience in Account Management, Business Development, Key Account Management or Technical Sales, ideally within the Nuclear sector.
  • Strong understanding of Control Systems (S&C), with experience working within the Nuclear industry or a related highly regulated engineering environment.
  • Exposure to technologies such as SCADA, PLCs and HMIs would be advantageous.
  • Experience working with Nuclear operators, Tier 1 contractors, engineering consultancies or supply chain organisations would be beneficial.
  • Proven track record of developing customer relationships whilst achieving sales growth through new business acquisition and account expansion.
  • Experience managing complex sales opportunities involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in growing accounts, identifying upsell opportunities and driving strategic conversations with customers.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to identify customer needs and convert opportunities into successful business outcomes.
  • Experience developing account growth strategies and managing sales pipelines.
  • Financially aware, with an appreciation of commercial risk, profitability and business value.
  • A good understanding of industrial automation, control systems or engineering solutions, or the ability to quickly develop technical knowledge.
  • Awareness of Nuclear industry requirements, including safety, quality and regulatory considerations.

Skills and Abilities

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a talent for simplifying complex technical topics and building relationships at all organisational levels.
  • Proven ability to negotiate commercial agreements and influence customer decision-making.
  • Ability to recognise what you do not know and seek advice and support from ITI technology leads.
  • Self-motivated and resilient, with a high-energy, can-do attitude and an eagerness to tackle challenges and find solutions.
  • Good presentation skills, with the ability to communicate confidently with technical and commercial stakeholders.
  • Proactive, with a solution-oriented mindset and a focus on building long-term customer partnerships.
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines and deliver high-quality results.

  • A full driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites across the South of the UK and elsewhere as required.

Job Description

Starling is the UK’s first and leading digital bank on a mission to fix banking! Our vision is fast technology, fair service, and honest values. All at the tap of a phone, all the time.

Starling is the UK’s first and leading digital bank on a mission to fix banking! We built a new kind of bank because we knew technology had the power to help people save, spend and manage their money in a new and transformative way.

We’re a fully licensed UK bank with the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive tech company. We’re a bank, but better: fairer, easier to use and designed to demystify money for everyone. We employ more than 3,000 people across our London, Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester offices.

Our technologists are at the very heart of Starling and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment that is all about building things, creating new stuff, and disruptive technology that keeps us on the cutting edge of fintech. We operate a flat structure to empower you to make decisions regardless of what your primary responsibilities may be, innovation and collaboration will be at the core of everything you do. Help is never far away in our open culture, you will find support in your team and from across the business, we are in this together!

The way to thrive and shine within Starling is to be a self-driven individual and be able to take full ownership of everything around you: From building things, designing, discovering, to sharing knowledge with your colleagues and making sure all processes are efficient and productive to deliver the best possible results for our customers. Our purpose is underpinned by five Starling values: Listen, Keep It Simple, Do The Right Thing, Own It, and Aim For Greatness.

Hybrid Working

We have a Hybrid approach to working here at Starling - our preference is that you're located within a commutable distance of one of our offices so that we're able to interact and collaborate in person. We don't like to mandate how much you visit the office and work from home, that's to be agreed upon between you and your manager.

Our Data Environment

Our Data teams are excited about the value of data within the business, powers our product decisions to improve things for our customers and enhance effective and agile decision making, regardless of what their primary tech stack may be. Hear from the team in our latest blogs or our case studies with Women in Tech.

We are looking for talented data professionals at all levels to join the team. We value people being engaged and caring about customers, caring about the code they write and the contribution they make to Starling. People with a broad ability to apply themselves to a multitude of problems and challenges, who can work across teams do great things here at Starling, to continue changing banking for good.

Requirements

We have built our entire banking platform in house and mostly in Java. We are looking for people who want to work on building the tooling that is used by our engineers on a daily basis.

We are looking for people who are truly full stack, and are as comfortable polishing their javascript front end as they are debugging the innards of their java applications database interactions, or standing up infrastructure with terraform. We are looking for people who can:

  • Design REST apis.
  • Code backend services, ideally using Java, or another other server side compiled language.
  • Develop modern front ends, ideally using React and Redux.
  • Get their code into the cloud and support it there, ideally on AWS.
  • Believe in clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing and continuous deployment.
  • Like to take ownership of a feature from the original idea through to live.
  • Think (like us) that a small number of empowered developers is the right way to deliver software.

Company Benefits

  • 33 days holiday (including flexible bank holidays)
  • An extra day’s holiday for your birthday
  • 16 hours paid volunteering time a year
  • Part-time and/or flexible hours available for most roles
  • Salary sacrifice, company enhanced pension scheme
  • Life insurance at 4x your salary
  • Hybrid/remote working
  • Private Medical Insurance with VitalityHealth including mental health support and cancer care. Partner benefits include discounts with Waitrose, Mr&Mrs Smith and Peloton
  • Generous family-friendly policies
  • Varied social groups set up and run by our employees
  • Perkbox membership giving access to retail discounts, a wellness platform for physical and mental health, and weekly free and boosted perks
  • Access to initiatives like Cycle to Work, Salary Sacrificed Gym partnerships and Electric Vehicle (EV) leasing

Full details are available on our careers site

Interview Process

Interviewing is a two way process and we want you to have the time and opportunity to get to know us, as much as we are getting to know you! Our interviews are conversational and we want to get the best from you, so come with questions and be curious. In general you can expect the below, following a chat with one of our Talent Team:

  • Stage 1 - 30 mins with one of the team
  • Stage 2 - Take home challenge
  • Stage 3 - 90 mins technical interview with two team members
  • Stage 3 - 45 min final with an executive and a member of the people team
