Job Description

About 506

506 builds and grows Shopify software used by ecommerce businesses to run important parts of their day-to-day operations. We are part of Circeus, a software group that acquires and scales established B2B software businesses, with AI central to how it operates.

We run a small portfolio of established, highly rated Shopify apps. Each one is used by thousands of merchants and is owned by a single Product Manager working directly with engineering, support, marketing partners and the GM.

The role

You will be the Product Manager for one established Shopify app in our portfolio. It is the smaller of our products, which makes it the right place to take on full ownership for the first time: a real revenue line, real merchants and a real roadmap, at a scale where you can understand the whole business and see the effect of your decisions quickly.

You will own the roadmap, the day-to-day product decisions and the commercial performance of the app. Your primary measure of success will be revenue growth. You will work out which product and marketing levers can create that growth, decide where to focus, and drive the work through to a measurable result.

You will not be doing this alone. The GM will set the wider business context and targets, coach you closely, and act as the final decision-maker on major trade-offs. You will also work alongside the app's current Product Manager during a structured handover, and with the other PMs in the team. Over time, the expectation is that you run the product with increasing independence.

506 is deliberately lean. You will have strong support around you, including extensive AI tooling, but you will not hand discovery, analysis, specification, QA or launch execution to a large product organisation. This is a hands-on role for someone who wants genuine ownership early in their career.

What you will do
  • Own the roadmap for your app, from problem definition through to shipped outcome and measured commercial impact

  • Make revenue growth the primary outcome, using acquisition, activation, retention, pricing, packaging and expansion as potential levers

  • Speak directly with merchants, including users who are struggling or have decided to leave

  • Stay close to support conversations and product data, identifying underlying patterns rather than responding to individual requests in isolation

  • Work directly with engineers to define problems, scope solutions, sequence delivery, remove blockers and push high-quality work into production

  • Maintain a high quality bar, especially where small details affect a merchant's storefront and revenue

  • Own how the app is presented within the Shopify ecosystem, working with marketing partners on positioning, messaging, launches, reviews and acquisition

  • Use AI as a standard part of how you research, analyse, prototype, write, test, report and make decisions

  • Build and maintain clear product and commercial reporting

  • Give concise recommendations and updates to the GM

What success looks like

Within your first 90 days, you will have:

  • Completed the handover and built a strong understanding of the app, its customers, its commercial model and the Shopify platform context

  • Taken clear ownership of the roadmap, reporting and day-to-day product decisions

  • Shipped useful improvements and shown that you can operate at our pace

  • Identified the most credible product and marketing opportunities for revenue growth

  • Produced a focused plan that explains what you will prioritise, what you will not, and why

Over your first year, you will have:

  • Delivered measurable revenue growth

  • Used product and marketing as connected growth levers

  • Shipped regularly without lowering the quality bar

  • Become the trusted internal owner of the product, its customers and its commercial performance

  • Grown into running the product with a high degree of independence

Success will not be measured by the number of features shipped. It will be measured by commercial impact, product quality and the strength of your decisions.

What we are looking for
  • Some product experience, typically one to two years as a Product Manager or Associate Product Manager, or an adjacent role (customer success, operations, analytics, engineering, founding a small product) where you owned a product outcome. Evidence matters more to us than title or tenure

  • At least one clear example of a metric you moved, including how you spotted the opportunity and what you personally changed

  • Strong attention to detail and a genuine interest in how software is used in real, day-to-day business operations

  • Commercial curiosity: you want to understand how product, positioning, pricing and marketing combine to grow a business

  • The ability to work directly and credibly with engineers, and a willingness to get into technical detail

  • Confidence speaking with customers and turning qualitative feedback into prioritised decisions

  • Fluency with AI tools in your daily work, with concrete examples of how they have improved your output or decision-making

  • University Degree in Engineering or Computer Science

  • Clear and concise written communication

  • A bias towards action, comfort making decisions with incomplete information, and openness to coaching and feedback

  • The ability to commute to our Victoria office two days a week, with office days agreed by the team

  • Unrestricted right to work in the UK. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position

Helpful, but not required
  • Experience with Shopify, ecommerce or a product distributed through a platform marketplace

  • Experience with product-led growth, pricing, packaging or acquisition

  • Exposure to analytics tooling, SQL or experimentation

  • An engineering, data, consulting or commercial background before moving into product

You do not need previous Shopify experience. Evidence of ownership, sound judgement and a real appetite to learn the commercial side of product are more important.

You also do not need to have launched an AI product. You do need to show that AI is already a meaningful part of how you work, rather than something you are only beginning to explore.

Why join
  • Own a whole product early in your career, rather than a small part of a large roadmap

  • Be directly accountable for product and commercial outcomes, with close coaching from the GM

  • Work closely with customers, engineers and senior leadership

  • Ship frequently and see the effect of your decisions quickly

  • Use product and marketing together rather than treating them as separate functions

  • Work with advanced AI tooling that is already part of how the group operates

  • Build the experience that leads to a more senior product role, either with us or elsewhere

Salary and location

The salary for this role is £45,000-50.000.

The role is based in London and requires two days a week in our Victoria office. The team agrees its office days together.

Company Benefits

  • O'Reilly account
  • Bonus scheme (at discretion)
  • Fully remote working

Interview Process

We aim to run a focused three-stage process:

  1. Conversation with the GM - Your experience, what you are looking for next, and a full introduction to the app you would be owning.

  2. Product deep dive and live working session - A discussion about a product outcome you have owned, followed by a collaborative working session on a real scenario from the app. There is no take-home assignment.

  3. Final leadership conversation - A final discussion with Shop Circle leadership about your judgement, working style and fit with the wider group.

Job Description

Starling is the UK’s first and leading digital bank on a mission to fix banking! Our vision is fast technology, fair service, and honest values. All at the tap of a phone, all the time.

Starling is the UK’s first and leading digital bank on a mission to fix banking! We built a new kind of bank because we knew technology had the power to help people save, spend and manage their money in a new and transformative way.

We’re a fully licensed UK bank with the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive tech company. We’re a bank, but better: fairer, easier to use and designed to demystify money for everyone. We employ more than 3,000 people across our London, Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester offices.

Our technologists are at the very heart of Starling and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment that is all about building things, creating new stuff, and disruptive technology that keeps us on the cutting edge of fintech. We operate a flat structure to empower you to make decisions regardless of what your primary responsibilities may be, innovation and collaboration will be at the core of everything you do. Help is never far away in our open culture, you will find support in your team and from across the business, we are in this together!

The way to thrive and shine within Starling is to be a self-driven individual and be able to take full ownership of everything around you: From building things, designing, discovering, to sharing knowledge with your colleagues and making sure all processes are efficient and productive to deliver the best possible results for our customers. Our purpose is underpinned by five Starling values: Listen, Keep It Simple, Do The Right Thing, Own It, and Aim For Greatness.

Hybrid Working

We have a Hybrid approach to working here at Starling - our preference is that you're located within a commutable distance of one of our offices so that we're able to interact and collaborate in person. We don't like to mandate how much you visit the office and work from home, that's to be agreed upon between you and your manager.

Our Data Environment

Our Data teams are excited about the value of data within the business, powers our product decisions to improve things for our customers and enhance effective and agile decision making, regardless of what their primary tech stack may be. Hear from the team in our latest blogs or our case studies with Women in Tech.

We are looking for talented data professionals at all levels to join the team. We value people being engaged and caring about customers, caring about the code they write and the contribution they make to Starling. People with a broad ability to apply themselves to a multitude of problems and challenges, who can work across teams do great things here at Starling, to continue changing banking for good.

Requirements

We have built our entire banking platform in house and mostly in Java. We are looking for people who want to work on building the tooling that is used by our engineers on a daily basis.

We are looking for people who are truly full stack, and are as comfortable polishing their javascript front end as they are debugging the innards of their java applications database interactions, or standing up infrastructure with terraform. We are looking for people who can:

  • Design REST apis.
  • Code backend services, ideally using Java, or another other server side compiled language.
  • Develop modern front ends, ideally using React and Redux.
  • Get their code into the cloud and support it there, ideally on AWS.
  • Believe in clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing and continuous deployment.
  • Like to take ownership of a feature from the original idea through to live.
  • Think (like us) that a small number of empowered developers is the right way to deliver software.

Company Benefits

  • 33 days holiday (including flexible bank holidays)
  • An extra day’s holiday for your birthday
  • 16 hours paid volunteering time a year
  • Part-time and/or flexible hours available for most roles
  • Salary sacrifice, company enhanced pension scheme
  • Life insurance at 4x your salary
  • Hybrid/remote working
  • Private Medical Insurance with VitalityHealth including mental health support and cancer care. Partner benefits include discounts with Waitrose, Mr&Mrs Smith and Peloton
  • Generous family-friendly policies
  • Varied social groups set up and run by our employees
  • Perkbox membership giving access to retail discounts, a wellness platform for physical and mental health, and weekly free and boosted perks
  • Access to initiatives like Cycle to Work, Salary Sacrificed Gym partnerships and Electric Vehicle (EV) leasing

Full details are available on our careers site

Interview Process

Interviewing is a two way process and we want you to have the time and opportunity to get to know us, as much as we are getting to know you! Our interviews are conversational and we want to get the best from you, so come with questions and be curious. In general you can expect the below, following a chat with one of our Talent Team:

  • Stage 1 - 30 mins with one of the team
  • Stage 2 - Take home challenge
  • Stage 3 - 90 mins technical interview with two team members
  • Stage 3 - 45 min final with an executive and a member of the people team
