Job Description

We’re on a mission to protect society from fraud and money laundering. We’ve already protected over 3 million people through life’s big transactions.

Fraud and regulation are rising, costing the UK economy over £100bn every year; this makes it more difficult for businesses to protect themselves and their clients - individuals like you and me - from fraud and money laundering.

Our co-founders Olly and Jack were led to this area when a friend was defrauded of £25K when buying their first property. At the time, anti-fraud technology didn’t exist, which meant that completing the anti-fraud checks required in these processes was largely manual. These big life moments should be exciting, but instead are often confusing and scary due to the painful process of completing these paper-based checks and the risk of fraud.

Thirdfort helps businesses to facilitate these anti fraud checks so that individuals know they can transact safely and seamlessly with professionals during these big transactions. Our anti-fraud platform provides a secure way for professionals in regulated sectors like Lawyers, Estate Agents and Accountants to transfer funds and verify sensitive information through app based document checks, facial recognition and open banking.

Over 1,500 businesses now trust Thirdfort to verify their clients. We are FCA regulated and have raised over $33m in capital from leading Fintech investors Breega and Element Ventures, as well as the founders of Zoopla, Funding Circle, Comply Advantage, Tessian, Fenergo and Fidel.

About the role:

This AI Operations role sits within TechOps. TechOps at Thirdfort enables teams to do their best work by building reliable, secure internal systems and processes, and increasingly, by using AI and automation to remove manual effort at scale.

We're looking for someone who has already built and run automations in a real business and can own meaningful work end-to-end. You'll scope problems with the teams who have them, ship working solutions yourself, and keep them running. We're looking for a creative, adaptable teammate to help shape how we operate and build a secure, scalable tech foundation for the future.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Redesign workflows for an AI-first world; embedding LLMs, automations, and better tooling where they create real value.
  • Build things yourself: prototype in n8n, write a Python script, call an API, wire up a Notion AI agent. You don’t hand specs off, you ship v1, gather feedback, and iterate.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities that reduce manual work across teams.
  • Embed deeply across the business, partnering hands-on with different teams day to day. Building trusted relationships and gaining a really strong, end-to-end understanding of how the business operates.
  • Own and continuously improve our internal tooling and operational workflows (e.g. Google Workspace, Notion, Slack, MDM, password management, etc.).
  • Improve how access is requested, granted, documented, and reviewed - balancing security and practicality, and automating it wherever it makes sense.
  • Own a share of core TechOps alongside the automation work. The people closest to these workflows spot the best automation opportunities, and these are among the first processes we'd expect you to streamline
What success looks like:
  • Teams have adopted practical AI solutions that run reliably day-to-day (with clear ownership, documentation, and measurable time saved).
  • Reduced manual work through automation and better workflows.
  • Clearer access management and better visibility over who has access to what (without slowing teams down).
  • Security posture improves through practical controls and high completion of required training.
What we are looking for:

You'll need hands-on experience, not just interest with:

  • You've built automations that other people rely on day-to-day, and you've kept them running: monitoring, fixing, and improving them after launch, not just shipping v1.
  • You're comfortable with automation platforms (n8n, Zapier, Make or similar) and can go beyond them when needed: writing a Python or JavaScript script, working with REST APIs and webhooks, handling auth and data transformations.
  • You've worked with LLMs or AI tooling in a practical setting and have a grounded view of where they add value and where they don't.
  • You work independently: you can take an ambiguous request from a team, scope it, decide on an approach, build it and hand it back with documentation, with light-touch oversight rather than step-by-step direction.

Beyond that, we’ve found that candidates who offer logical thinking with solid troubleshooting capabilities, with a desire to identify and address underlying issues make a strong start. We also look for the following:

  • Excellent communication skills; you can communicate technical concepts to any audience
  • You’re great at turning ambiguous problems into practical, well-owned solutions.
  • Enjoy collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional borders.
  • You can balance security with usability (you don’t default to “no”, you default to “how”).
  • You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders and enjoy being a trusted partner.
  • You like building repeatable processes and strong documentation - not just firefighting.

Bonus (not required):experience with Google Workspace Admin, MDM, endpoint security, or working in a regulated (FCA/AML) environment.

Studies show that women and people from underrepresented backgrounds are less likely to apply unless they meet every requirement. If you don’t tick every box but feel this role could be a great fit, we’d still love to hear from you.

  • Customisable wellness budget and discounts on well-known brands with our partner ThanksBen

We want you to move fearlessly. That's why we’re building a culture where ambitious people can be themselves and make an impact. When you join Thirdfort, you’ll get immediate access to our flexible employee benefits package that aims to set you up for success.

Job Description

Starling is the UK’s first and leading digital bank on a mission to fix banking! Our vision is fast technology, fair service, and honest values. All at the tap of a phone, all the time.

Starling is the UK’s first and leading digital bank on a mission to fix banking! We built a new kind of bank because we knew technology had the power to help people save, spend and manage their money in a new and transformative way.

We’re a fully licensed UK bank with the culture and spirit of a fast-moving, disruptive tech company. We’re a bank, but better: fairer, easier to use and designed to demystify money for everyone. We employ more than 3,000 people across our London, Southampton, Cardiff and Manchester offices.

Our technologists are at the very heart of Starling and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment that is all about building things, creating new stuff, and disruptive technology that keeps us on the cutting edge of fintech. We operate a flat structure to empower you to make decisions regardless of what your primary responsibilities may be, innovation and collaboration will be at the core of everything you do. Help is never far away in our open culture, you will find support in your team and from across the business, we are in this together!

The way to thrive and shine within Starling is to be a self-driven individual and be able to take full ownership of everything around you: From building things, designing, discovering, to sharing knowledge with your colleagues and making sure all processes are efficient and productive to deliver the best possible results for our customers. Our purpose is underpinned by five Starling values: Listen, Keep It Simple, Do The Right Thing, Own It, and Aim For Greatness.

Hybrid Working

We have a Hybrid approach to working here at Starling - our preference is that you're located within a commutable distance of one of our offices so that we're able to interact and collaborate in person. We don't like to mandate how much you visit the office and work from home, that's to be agreed upon between you and your manager.

Our Data Environment

Our Data teams are excited about the value of data within the business, powers our product decisions to improve things for our customers and enhance effective and agile decision making, regardless of what their primary tech stack may be. Hear from the team in our latest blogs or our case studies with Women in Tech.

We are looking for talented data professionals at all levels to join the team. We value people being engaged and caring about customers, caring about the code they write and the contribution they make to Starling. People with a broad ability to apply themselves to a multitude of problems and challenges, who can work across teams do great things here at Starling, to continue changing banking for good.

Requirements

We have built our entire banking platform in house and mostly in Java. We are looking for people who want to work on building the tooling that is used by our engineers on a daily basis.

We are looking for people who are truly full stack, and are as comfortable polishing their javascript front end as they are debugging the innards of their java applications database interactions, or standing up infrastructure with terraform. We are looking for people who can:

  • Design REST apis.
  • Code backend services, ideally using Java, or another other server side compiled language.
  • Develop modern front ends, ideally using React and Redux.
  • Get their code into the cloud and support it there, ideally on AWS.
  • Believe in clean coding, simple solutions, automated testing and continuous deployment.
  • Like to take ownership of a feature from the original idea through to live.
  • Think (like us) that a small number of empowered developers is the right way to deliver software.

Company Benefits

  • 33 days holiday (including flexible bank holidays)
  • An extra day’s holiday for your birthday
  • 16 hours paid volunteering time a year
  • Part-time and/or flexible hours available for most roles
  • Salary sacrifice, company enhanced pension scheme
  • Life insurance at 4x your salary
  • Hybrid/remote working
  • Private Medical Insurance with VitalityHealth including mental health support and cancer care. Partner benefits include discounts with Waitrose, Mr&Mrs Smith and Peloton
  • Generous family-friendly policies
  • Varied social groups set up and run by our employees
  • Perkbox membership giving access to retail discounts, a wellness platform for physical and mental health, and weekly free and boosted perks
  • Access to initiatives like Cycle to Work, Salary Sacrificed Gym partnerships and Electric Vehicle (EV) leasing

Full details are available on our careers site

Interview Process

Interviewing is a two way process and we want you to have the time and opportunity to get to know us, as much as we are getting to know you! Our interviews are conversational and we want to get the best from you, so come with questions and be curious. In general you can expect the below, following a chat with one of our Talent Team:

  • Stage 1 - 30 mins with one of the team
  • Stage 2 - Take home challenge
  • Stage 3 - 90 mins technical interview with two team members
  • Stage 3 - 45 min final with an executive and a member of the people team
