What are the benefits of contracting?

I wasn't prepared to put a hundred percent into that area of my life because the other area of my life, being starting a family, was really suffering as a result and the two weren't working together at all. That's when I realised I was beginning not to deliver my best work in that environment and I decided to move from a full-time role into much more contracting, consulting, so picking and choosing when I worked.

That enabled me to have much more agency over what I was doing, much more control, the ability to be able to pick and choose work, which has been a huge contributing factor to my work satisfaction, to being able to do the best job I possibly can.
