Are people “themselves” online?

I think so much of social media today is presenting oneselves as we want to be presented. So there's a part of it where people feel like, ‘Oh, I can be anonymous and I can say what I want.’ Another part is like, ‘I'm going to take this photo of myself and edit it and put forward this, like on Instagram’, and lots of things about someone looking their best or whatever it is. And it's so important for that to be connected to their own identity. And actually it's like a sort of augmented version of themselves. So there's almost the two extremes.
